Frequently Asked Questions |
Q. |
Do you have a customer satisfaction or refund policy? |
Yes. If any client is ever dissatisfied with their service, they may have their current annual planning fee refunded. |
Q. |
What are your qualifications? What is your education background? |
I follow a holistic approach starting with where someone is now and making sure they are being as efficient as possible. Then based on where they want to be (goals), I create a plan to follow and action steps to take to accomplish what they want. |
Q. |
How are you compensated? How will I pay for your services? |
I work with a continuously growing number of clients. I currently manage over 100 individuals, families, and small businesses. |
Q. |
If you are going to manage my account, will you obtain my permission every time you buy or sell something? |
When someone hires me, I am their advisor. I do have support staff and other advisors in my office in a financial matter that requires immediate attention. However, all meetings and transactions will be handled by me. |
Q. |
How many clients do you currently manage? |
If in our discussions we find that a financial planning relationship is most appropriate for you, I charge an annual fee based upon the complexity of your situation, goals, and time needed throughout the year. This is a flat fee (not a retainer) and includes all of our meetings, phone calls, management of your accounts, etc. |
Q. |
Will you be the only person working with me? |
Yes, I call all of my clients prior to any transactions. I want you to understand what is going on in your accounts in real time, not just reviewing what happened on your quarterly statements. |
Q. |
Do you offer any guaranteed results? |
No. There is nothing that can be guaranteed in this business (with the exception of annuity riders). Instead of dreaming about guarantees, it's best to have a plan in place to prepare for the good times and bad. I CAN tell you that I strive to provide the best possible service for each of my valued clients. |
Q. |
How much risk should I be willing to take? |
We will figure this out together. Risk is a function of time, emotions, and needs. Only someone who has reviewed your situation can advise on this properly. |
Q. |
Have you ever been charged with any breaches? |
Q. |
What is your approach to financial planning? |
How I charge depends on the scope of service needed. I have financial planning clients who pay a flat annual fee, I have clients who pay transnational commissions, and I have other that pay a management fee for their accounts. Part of my job is to find the fee structure that suits you best and saves you money. |
Q. |
What services do you offer? |
I am independent, local, and licensed to offer most products on the market. By working with me, you will also garner a much better understanding of what you're doing with your money and why. I feel educating my clients is a crucial part of managing their money. I will make recommendations as if I was in their shoes, but the end of the day, it is THEIR money. |
Q. |
What carrier(s) do you represent? |
As an independent advisor, I work with most insurance companies in the US. The top few that I commonly work with are: New York Life, Metlife, Prudential, The Hartford, Genworth, AXA, Mutual of Omaha, and The Standard |
Q. |
Are there any pre-existing conditions that you can not cover? |
Each insurance company has it's own exclusions and restrictions. In certain cases, it is best to offer a company a "trial application" to review your records and see what company would be able to offer you the best price. |
Q. |
How long does it take to complete the application and approval process? |
Typically, application to policy-in-hand takes 6-8 weeks. Clients can speed that process along by being attentive to their requirements. The longer you take to do your stuff, the longer it takes the insurance company. |
Q. |
Is there a maximum age that you can insure? |
Again, each insurance company has it's own rules, but typically the maximum issue age is 80-85. |
Q. |
Why should I choose you as my financial advisor? |
BS in Finance with a concentration in Risk Management from Virginia Tech. I have my Series 7, Series 66, FL State 215, and CRPC®. I also take continued education courses on a frequent, rolling basis and teach retirement planning classes through the SOFA (non-profit) network to the general public. |
Q. |
How do you charge for your services? |
Retirement Planning, 401(k)/IRA Rollovers, Managed Accounts, Insurance Protection, Estate and Tax Planning, Education Planning, Risk Management |
Q. |
What services do you provide? What are your specialties? |
Retirement Planning, 401(k)/IRA Rollovers, Managed Accounts, Insurance Protection, Estate and Tax Planning, Education Planning, Risk Management. |
Q. |
What is your experience? How many clients do you currently manage? |
I have been a practicing financial planner since 2005 and started my own independent firm in 2009. I personally work with about 80 individuals, families, and small businesses. |
Q. |
What financial institution(s) do you represent? |
As an independent advisor, I work with most investment firms to help my clients. The most common companies I use include: Fidelity, Prudential, AXA, Jackson, Putnam, Ivy Funds, Blackrock, FirstTrust UITs, and Realty Capital Securities. |
Q. |
Do you have a minimum requirement for number of employees or total investment value? |
Q. |
What are your qualifications? |
I am licensed with my Series 7, 66, and state 215 and therefore can offer all rollover options inculding mutual funds, UITs, ETFs, stocks, and annuities. The most important part is finding out which is best for you. |
Q. |
What is your approach to 401 K plan rollovers? |
1) Find out whether you would benefit from a rollover. 2) Figure out what the better options are. 3) Walk hand-in-hand with the client to open their IRA, fill out paperwork, make conference calls, and get their account rolled over. |
Q. |
How long does the process of rolling over a 401K plan usually take? |
This varies on the plan sponsor. I will normally conference call with the client and sponsor to assist in them getting all the proper information to hurry it along. |
Q. |
What financial institutions do you represent? |
As an independent advisor, I work with most financial institutions. The most common being: Fidelity, Prudential, AXA, Principal, The Hartford, Putnam, Ivy Funds, Blackrock, FirstTrust UITs, and Realty Capital Securities. |
Q. |
How many years of experience do you have? |
I have been a fully licensed Financial Advisor since 2005. |
Q. |
What are your fees for this service? |
I do not charge a fee for assisting in a rollover. |
Q. |
How many 401K rollover clients do you currently manage? |
Most of my clients have at one time or another rolled over a retirement account with me. It is the most common account opening needed for clients approaching retirement. Though I can't provide an exact number, I would say about 80% of my clients have initiated a 401(k) rollover at some point. |
Q. |
Why should I roll over my 401K plan to your firm? |
There are many advantages to rolling over your 401k to an IRA in general, but even more so to do it with an independent advisor. Have it be me or someone else, you will have total flexibility in what you invest in now and ongoing instead of being restricted to your 401(k) options, or those of a non-independent insurance company or bank. |
